NCIDQ Moves to a New Office

WASHINGTON, DC—The National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) has relocated. The organization has taken up residence at 1602 L Street NW, Suite 200, in Washington, DC, just a few blocks from its previous location on 18th Street.

The new space, designed by Perkins + Will, focuses on a greener and more open design. NCIDQ, an organization committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public by establishing standards of competence in the practice of interior design, made the commitment to provide an environment that improves the health, safety and welfare of the staff. NCIDQ is working toward LEED certification for the new space.

The new office captures the history and innovation of interior design all in one space. The workstations have lowered walls to enhance the amount of light transferred throughout the workspace and to encourage teamwork and collaboration. The offices and conference rooms are enclosed by glass to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The office was built with locally sourced and recycled materials, and the staff is also committed to going green.

In celebration of design throughout the years, modern and antique chairs adorn the new space, from a pair of antique chairs in the reception area to the modern Panton Chair, designed by Verner Panton in 1960. By populating the space with references to iconic designs of the past and present, the space pays subtle tribute to the rich history of the interior design profession. Combined with sustainably responsible design practices, the space is an environment that showcases the spirit of innovative design.

NCIDQ began its life in 1974 in New York City. The organization later moved to White Plains, NY and then, in 1998, to Washington, DC. When NCIDQ moved to DC, it signed a 10-year lease and occupied 3,260 square feet. NCIDQ has grown its staff over the years, and as the lease ran out, so did the space. The new space provides 6,000 square feet to accommodate the current staff, with room for additional growth. NCIDQ has signed a 10-year lease at this new location and will be sharing space with the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID).
