Les Muniak Receives 2004 Louis S. Tregre Award

Leszek Muniak, a long-term volunteer on NCIDQ’s Examination, was awarded the 2004 Louis S. Tregre Award. The award is given in memory of Louis S. Tregre, a founding director of NCIDQ, to recognize the contribution of outstanding volunteer service to advance NCIDQ’s mission of public protection.

Muniak, a partner in the Toronto firm of Larden Muniak, is widely regarded as an expert in codes issues, and he brought his considerable expertise to the NCIDQ Examination. “The Board was overwhelmingly positive in its confirmation of Les Muniak as the 2004 Louis Tregre Award recipient,” said Derrell Parker, 2004 NCIDQ President. “For many years, Les was an integral member of NCIDQ’s Multiple-Choice Committee, bringing his tireless commitment to ensuring the safety of the built environment. What’s truly remarkable about Les is that he worked so hard to ensure the NCIDQ Examination was reliable and fair--even though he is not an interior designer. Les Muniak is a professional who willingly volunteered his time and considerable expertise to raise the bar on public health, life-safety and welfare.”

In his acceptance remarks, Muniak assured the Council of Delegates that from his viewpoint, the interior design profession is very strong. “The knowledge base is deeper, the understanding by all interior designers of their obligations, professional responsibilities and commitments to the public is much broader, and the respect that interior designers enjoy throughout the construction and building design industry is much greater and more pronounced than it has ever been. The interior design profession is very vibrant, very dynamic, and very much in tune with an ever-changing society,” he said. “I am proud that I have been able to play even a minor part in the growth, strengthening and transformation of the profession.”
